There are 2 types of releases — releases of the minor versions, known as updates, and a major releases known as upgrades.
When you install a minor version, it is not mandatory to uninstall the previous version.
The previous minor version will be automatically uninstalled when a new minor version will be installed on your computer.
If you install an upgrade, it remains up to you whether to remove it or to continue using it parallel with the purchased upgrade.
